Set the sails right

An interview with Jörg Delveaux

Set the sails right

Jörg Delveaux has been a managing director at rff since the beginning of this year. In an exclusive interview with Stahlmarkt Jörg Delveaux reveals his position on issues that both he and rff face today and in the future.

You have been a managing director at rff since the beginning of the year. Looking back, how was your experience from the start?

First of all, I can say that I have settled in well and feel very much at home here. This is partly due to the way I was prepared for the new tasks at rff in advance. The “onboarding” has been well structured and goal-oriented from the very beginning. I like the fact that the familiarisation is very professional yet collegial at the same time. In the first discussions it was already apparent to me that rff and I would be a good match.

You were already familiar with rff beforehand. What was your connection to the company before joining it?

Before rff I was very aware of the existing philosophy at rff. There is great emphasis placed on both quality and collaborating as partners. Many customers, suppliers and also colleagues have been closely associated with the company for a long time. I notice this especially in the daily cooperation with all interest groups.

What issues have you been dealing with from the beginning and what are the plans for the future?

In my responsibility as managing director I am gradually acquainting myself with the individual areas of the company. This task is complex and will take a while longer. However, the focus of my work lies upon the area of material management. This is a good starting point and the insight into the strategic and operational alignment thus far forms a good foundation for the future. Hartmut Böttche, Michael Allexi and I are currently working intensively on the conversion and expansion of the central warehouse in Stuhr. There are many ideas that we would like to implement in the coming years.

And now to you as a person, Jörg Delveaux. How do you balance out your responsible tasks as managing director?

During the week I currently live apart from my wife and my two sons. My evenings in Bremen are mostly filled with sporting activities. This means that we enjoy the family time at the weekends all the more. This time is very precious and gives me lots of energy for my work at rff.

Finally, a look to the future. Where do you see yourself and rff in the coming years?

I would like to develop further as a person, as Jörg Delveaux, and do my part in ensuring that rff remains on a solid footing and grows sustainably. The issues of product policy, digitalisation and the promotion of young talent play a central role in this. Direct investment abroad will continue to be analysed continuously and monitored for its future viability to intensify the international presence of rff. We will set the sails right, regardless of what direction the wind comes from. As is to be expected from a north German company with Hanseatic roots (laughs).
